Wetlands International

Mangroves are coastal superheroes; they protect shorelines from erosion, support marine life, store carbon, and act as natural buffers against storms.

In Guinea-Bissau, however, mangroves faced severe degradation due to unsustainable practices and environmental challenges. The loss of these vital ecosystems threatened biodiversity, community livelihoods, and climate resilience.

Recognizing the urgent need for action, Wetlands International launched a transformative project to restore mangroves and empower local communities, applying their Community-Based Ecological Mangrove Restoration (CBEMR) approach.
Our team was honored to document this critical work, telling the story of challenges and solutions.
